The three layouts
- Span stretches one wallpaper across every monitor. This fits a single wide video or a scene you want to read as one image.
- Per display assigns a wallpaper to each monitor on its own. Use this when the screens have different sizes or you want a calm screen next to a bright one.
- Grid is the most detailed option in the project docs: independent wallpaper and audio per display.
Practical choice
If both monitors are the same height, Span can look continuous. If one screen is vertical or a different resolution, Per display avoids stretching. If you only want wallpaper audio from one speaker set, Grid or per-display audio controls are the documented way to isolate sound.
Setup outline
- Connect the monitors in Windows Settings and confirm each is detected.
- Open Lively and find the layout or display controls.
- Apply a wallpaper, then change layout and re-check each screen.
- If one screen stays black, re-select that display and apply again instead of restarting Windows first.
Files that fit
A 3840×2160 file is not automatically correct for two 1080p monitors side by side. Span wants a wider source. Per display can use a normal 16:9 file on each screen. Library pages on this site list resolution so you can match the file to the layout.
