Use Lively Wallpaper on a laptop without draining the battery

A moving wallpaper uses more power than a static image. Lively documents a pause-when-on-battery option so the laptop can fall back when the charger is unplugged.

What to expect

On a desktop that stays plugged in, battery life is not a concern. On a laptop, any GPU-driven wallpaper will use more energy than a still JPEG. How much it uses depends on resolution, codec, and whether a shader is running. This site does not publish minute-by-minute battery figures.

Use the official battery pause

  1. Open Lively settings.
  2. Enable the option that pauses wallpaper playback on battery, if your build includes it.
  3. Unplug the charger and confirm the wallpaper stops or switches to a still frame.
  4. Plug back in and confirm it resumes if that is the behavior you want.

Lighter files help even when pause is off

  • Prefer 1920×1080 over 4K on integrated graphics.
  • Prefer a short H.264 MP4 over a heavy shader.
  • Mute wallpaper audio so the app is not decoding sound you do not hear.

Library pages list file size and resolution so you can choose the HD option on purpose.
